Greg Morris Shutters The Spanish Kitchen, Focusing on New LA and NY Projects

New, 27 comments

Last fall Eater heard that popular NYC Italian haunt Serafina had almost signed on to take over Greg Morris' The Spanish Kitchen on La Cienega. And while that deal fell through, as of two weeks ago Morris has shuttered the Mexican restaurant, no word on a replacement at this time. The situation, straight from Morris:

We closed down about two weeks ago. After 10 years at The Spanish Kitchen I have decided to close the restaurant. With the landscape changing on La Cienega and my interests moving in another direction I felt it best to leave on a high note. It has been an exciting and fulfilling journey, I am so happy to see more Mexican restaurants doing what we did 10 years ago. By recognizing that there is in fact a Mexican 'cuisine' the city of LA is better for it. With Franklin & Company and The Oaks doing well I am working on some new and exciting projects including a hotel, taqueria and seafood shack. However after 20 years of owning and operating here in LA I am really thrilled about projects Ill be doing out of the state in New York.
So, this leaves La Cienega devoid of Morris projects at the moment. And don't forget, he shuttered Oak Fire Pizzeria & Pub, located across the street, a year ago. [EaterWire]
