K-TOWN— Seemingly out of left field comes word via Grub Street that on Saturday couple Farid Zadi and Susan Park, those behind Cafe Livre in Culver City, will open Spanish Fly Gastropub in place of Green Bee Bar on Wilshire near Western. Their fusiony menu includes the likes of a kim chi bacon sausage sandwich, paella, and Korean fried duck. [Grub Street]
IRVINE— Blaze Pizza, that Pitfire Pizza meets 800 Degrees knockoff founded by the Wetzel’s Pretzels folk and cheffed by Bradford Kent of Olio, is looking to launch its first outlet (Irvine’s University Center) on July 29 at 7 p.m. Next comes Pasadena in September, follwed by more than 15 additional units in SoCal by the end of 2013. Talk about aggressive expansion. [EaterWire]
