Have a Look at Cognoscenti Coffee's Culver City Space

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

Not too long ago came word that Cognoscenti Coffee had leased an alcove in Clive Wilkinson Architects' new mixed use structure in Culver City. The building itself is now complete, boasting a dark, angular facade with a small rectangular footprint for Cognoscenti Coffee. This here outpost will be the first permanent location for the pop-up coffee operation, which recently took a hiatus from its stint at Hotel Normandie.

Yeekai Lim, Cognoscenti's founder and an architect himself, was introduced to the property by Wilkinson, and offered to create a design-forward coffee shop to serve the neighborhood as well as the office workers in the building.

At the moment, construction is stalled because Lim is waiting for final building and health permits, however he expects to receive those within the next day or so, with a planned launch in about two months. In other news, Lim has recently increased the lineup of out-of-town roasters at his Proof Bakery residency. Lately he has been serving Heart Roasters from Portland; BackPorch Coffee Roasters from Bend, OR; Kuma Coffee from Seattle; Four Barrel from San Francisco, and LA's own Handsome Coffee.
