Late last year, the iconic Bastide on Melrose Place was leased to Mari Vanna, the restaurant group known for its eclectic (and expensive) Mari Vanna eatery in NYC, server of authentic Russian cuisine. Back then reps had planned to open their LA branch over the summer, but when Eater passed by recently for an update, the large entrance was completely boarded up. Peeking inside only provided a view of a raw, messy construction site. And although an Alcohol Beverage Control application dated March 13, 2012 was approved for the space, with full liquor, beer and wine allowed to be served during "regular meal times," it's looking unlikely that the kitschy restaurant will meet its projected launch.
