Lee Maen, one of the guys behind IDG (Innovative Dining Group), shoots the breeze with NRN and provides several restaurant-related updates. As for that forthcoming Gino Angelini (Angelini Osteria) Italian concept taking over part of Sunset's shuttered Hamburger Hamlet space, the still unnamed eatery should open in November with a "great" outdoor patio. Maen describes it as "fine-dining Italian, kind of a modernized Angelini Osteria, though not modern — more Tuscan countryside." The second half of Hamburger Hamlet will be devoted to an Asian concept opening in February or March. IDG is adding additional space for a total of 10,000 square feet plus a 3,000-square-foot patio. Maen reveals that IDG has "another partnership with someone really special, but they haven't signed yet ... It's a name group, and the plan is to do something very sexy, romantic fine dining."
In expansion news, IDG is looking to bring Sushi Roku or Katana to Orange County, San Francisco, Chicago, Miami, and NYC. Looks like NYC could be first. Maen explains, "We hope to do five restaurants there, and we've started looking at locations. We'll get serious about that plan toward the end of this year and lock into some deals."
