SaMo's Food Truck Lot Back; Kogi Menu Changes, More

SANTA MONICA—After more than two years of being shut down by the city of Santa Monica, the "Hump Day" food truck lot on 14th and Santa Monica Blvd. is back in operation, this time with a permit from the city. Every Wednesday six trucks will be serving from 10 a.m to 3 p.m. and then from 4 to 9 p.m. Nighttime means live music, indoor seating, and booze.[Grubstreet]

CHINATOWN—Jet Tila and Lupe Liang will be battling it out Iron Chef-style for this Saturday's Chinatown Summer Nights at 8PM. Other festivities include a soup-eating competition (yes it will be sloppy), a craft beer garden curated by Eagle Rock Brewery, a slew of food trucks, and tunes provided by KCRW DJs such as Jason Bentley and Anthony Valdez. PALMS—The always hilarious Alice Shin of Kogi BBQ has written a humorous rundown of the soon-to-be former menu items of Roy Choi's Kogi and Chego menus. Key dishes that will be missing include the Kogi dog, kimchi quesadilla and almost all items from Chego's apps section (don't worry, the ooey gooey fries are here to stay). Look for new mainstays at Chego such as the chicken adobo bowl and a re-vamped kimchi bowl. [ELA]

FINANCIAL DISTRICT—Drago Centro's Exec Chef Ian Gresik has put together a new Tomato Tasting menu at the height of its season. The menu has an heirloom tomato salad with olive oil powder, sand dab in tomato water, and NY steak with tomato-crusted potato. Even dessert has a tomato sorbet with chocolate budino. $70 for six courses. [Eaterwire]
