The Famous, Beer Float Showdown, More!

GLENDALE— Nick Vitulli (Eveleigh, 10 Pound) is running the drink program over at The Famous, a new whiskey craft cocktail bar open as of last month on Brand Boulevard across from the Americana in the historic Huntley-Evans building. Libations are modeled after creations that date back 100 years ago, syrups are made in house and fruit comes from local farmers markets. Right now only booze, but a happy hour food menu will launch in the next month. [ELA]

ATWATER VILLAGE— LA's annual Beer Float Showdown presented by Food GPS is back, taking place September 29 (2 to 5 p.m.) at Golden Road Brewing. This year's five teams, comprised of local chefs and breweries, run as follows: Eagle Rock Brewery + Andre Guerrero & Jan Purdy (The Oinkster / Maximiliano), Strand Brewing + Christian Page (Short Order) & Hourie Sahakian (Short Cake), El Segundo Brewing Co. + Shiho Yoshikawa (Sweet Rose Creamery), Golden Road Brewing + Josh Graves & Paul Sanguinetti (Ray's and Stark Bar / C+M), and Beachwood BBQ and Brewing + Tony DiSalvo & Chris Crary (Whist). Tickets to taste and vote cost $35 or $45 (10% of proceeds benefit The Pablove Foundation) for early admission and a take-home glass. [EaterWire]

OUT AND ABOUT— That Besha Rodell, she's just so on top of her game. In an LAW piece today she uncovers the latest trend of lady-themed restaurants. Actress Eva Longoria and F-list reality star Chris Bukowski (Bachelorette) are each opening such establishments. The verdict? "... it seems straight dumb to set out to disenfranchise half of your potential clientele." [LAW]
