Manhattan's Big Gay Ice Cream Truck, a popular soft serve seller gone brick and mortar, is popping up in Los Angeles from October 23 to 27. Doug Quint explains that he and partner Bryan Petroff visited LA in late July and had so much fun here that they started to consider a short term LA pop-up. While most LA ice cream vehicles focus on weird and wacky flavors, BGICT sticks to simple flavors (in LA they plan to serve vanilla and brownie batter), but gets creative with toppings and sauces. In NY they will top your soft serve with olive oil, wasabi pea dust, or even Sriracha, and while some of their favored toppings will be offered in LA, Quint/Petroff are also teaming up with local chefs for a few new special additions. One such chef pair possibly creating a custom topping is Jon Shook and Vinny Dotolo from Animal/Son of a Gun.
Although location specifics are still tbd (follow @biggayicecream for more intel), Quint states that the truck will likely be parked outside Duff Goldman's Cakemix, outside Animal and maybe Son of a Gun, by Heath Ceramics, and one day the truck will follow Roy Choi in a Kogi truck. Of course the question begs, if this LA run proves a success, could we expect a permanent BGICT or even a brick and mortar? According to Quint, the time is not quite right at the moment, but eventually, yes. [EaterWire]
