As of yesterday, Iron Chef Masaharu Morimoto unveiled his first ever dining engagement, Skewers by Morimoto, a "unique Asian concept" now serving in LAX's Terminal 5. As the name suggests, Skewers by Morimoto is a casual eatery that focuses on Japanese street and bar food called kushiyaki and kushiage or skewered edibles. Think meats and seafood either robata-grilled and served over rice and veggies, or deep fried in a panko crust. Non skewered options include salads, soups, and an assortment of breakfast items.
Although, yes, this is still airport food, it's nice to see the LAX powers that be focus on more chef-driven, less chainy dining operations. There's only more to come as LAX contines its long overdue culinary refresh.
