Barnyard has had a stop and go life up until this point. The former Benice on Pacific Avenue in Venice was originally supposed to open over the summer as a Jeremy Fox-cheffed project. The launch was delayed to the fall, and then in November the chef split from the restaurant altogether. While Barnyard itself was basically ready to debut, management had to reorganize and restock the kitchen. So, in December, former Tasting Kitchen chef Jesse Barber joined Barnyard as executive chef. Here now, six weeks later, word in that Barnyard opens February 1 with Barber's seasonal, Mediterranean inspired menu. Rundown has an early peek at the bill of fare which offers clams with white beans and fennel; and pork with caramelized apples and polenta.
