The mourners were many after Hollywood Pies announced their closure on their website. However, this morning the beloved Chicago deep dish-style pizzeria announced that they're planning to upgrade the kitchen, "recharge their batteries," and open again some time in November. This comes off news this week from the LA Times that owner David Miscimarra was planning to "revisit his mechanical engineering background" or spend more time with his 82-year old mother "living halfway across the country." Apparently the explanation for closure wasn't necessarily financial, but more for personal reasons.
According to Hollywood Pies' website,
"To all of our customers who have emailed, texted and left phone messages expressing thanks, concern and financial support, we are overwhelmed and greatly appreciate the thoughtfulness. As had been stated earlier, the decision was solely based on personal reasons. So for now, one of us is going to put aside plans of retirement in Detroit and continue the original mission?.currently, there are some updates to our kitchen going on?stay tuned to this channel?.and thanks again for the support."
According the Times article, Miscimarra had a falling out with his original partner and thought that the least likely outcome would be to re-lease the current space and relaunch. But he said, "everything was conceivable," tossing around ideas like partnering with a brewery and having customers buy out the business. Instead Miscimarra seems to have pulled it together and re-grouped. Official reopening date is tba, though details should be released on the restaurant's website.
