ALHAMBRA— It's not uncommon, even during colder months, to find a line snaking out the door at Blockheads, the shaved ice cafe on Mississippi at Sawtelle. And despite all the competition in the SGV, Blockheads is expanding with a second shavery in Alhambra at the corner of Garfield and Main. Management plans to open in the next couple of weeks. CULVER CITY— Ruth Reichl is in town and she stopped by Evan Funke's Bucato. She's a big fan of the restaurant, calling Funke's breads "superb" and the pastas "in a class by themselves." Her favorite was the macaroni di busa. [Ruth Reichl]

AROUND TOWN—A new enterprise named Bling Bling Dumpling, right now sold online and at farmers markets, is looking to open a brick and mortar dumpling bar in about a year. And while dumplings come flavored with garlic and pork, one will also fine atypical fillings like cheeseburger and chicken-Thai basil. [EaterWire]

AROUND TOWN— Bay Area's Patxi's Pizza, which is scooting South to Santa Barara next year, also plans to hit Los Angeles in 2015. [EaterWire]

AROUND TOWN— LA, surprisingly, is the number one city in the country for bacon lovers, according to Movoto. [Movoto]
