On Sunday night, between the hours of 8 p.m. and 2 a.m., Matthew Biancaniello, LA's mad infusionist and crop to cup cocktail chef, presided over the bar at Cheetahs, a strip club in Hollywood. Because hey, if strip clubs in Portland can serve vegan food, then strip clubs in LA can serve seaweed cocktails. And hop head vodka with fresh pumpkin juice, candy cap mushroom bourbon with curry leaves and passion fruit, plus seaweed, pistachio or foraged cactus fruit margaritas. Oh, and aged sake in a can (which Biancaniello will offer at the new Plan Check on Fairfax). Cheetahs, technically a "live adult entertainment" bar/lounge per its website, actually dates back to the 1920s when it debuted as the Irish Shamrock Pub. Current management took over about 20 years ago, at which point Cheetahs became Cheetahs in its present incarnation.

Sunday night attracted a mixed crowd. Some hit the bar for a taste of Biancaniello's adult beverages in an uncommon setting, but it was clear that many others were just there for the girls. In fact, Sunday night was "Amateur Night," and event producer/dancer Amanda Leigh explained that all girls on stage were "professional business women" from ages 20 to 50. Apparently all have day jobs. Anyway, the evening was successful enough that a second round is already planned for January 19, 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. New title: "Amateur Pole Art Showcase" featuring drinks by Matthew Biancaniello.
