Longtime SoCal Mexican restaurant chain Casa Escobar, with current locations in Santa Monica and Westlake, is moving into a new home at the Malibu Inn. Remember how that site was up for grabs?

Owner Kathy Escobar is excited about her new Malibu property which should open in a few weeks, and some might recall that years back Casa Escobar occupied a space in Malibu on Cross Creek. Escobar is a Malibu local and her grandfather launched the first Casa Escobar in 1946 in West LA. Her father continued the family legacy opening 14+ more over the years.

The Malibu Inn building encompasses about 9,000 square feet (not including the patio), and Casa Escobar will occupy approximately 6,500 square feet plus the second level mezzanine of interior and the entire 2,000 square foot patio. So, that's a total of about 8,500 square feet. The remaining 3,000 square feet of interior space is available and the building's landlord plans to lease it to a retail concept.

Casa Escobar's chef, "Enrique," hails from Mexico City and has worked at other Casa Escobar locations. His lunch and dinner menus will remain pretty much the same, with the addition of a few more "healthy" options.

A couple years ago The Inn underwent a facelift, and it sounds like some but not all of the aesthetic will change. Escobar also plans to add entertainment like salsa and salsa lessons.
