Belcampo Meat Co. Takes Prime Stall in Grand Central

Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

Belcampo Meat Co., the lauded butchery from Northern California, is taking a highly coveted stall right in the middle of Grand Central Market in Downtown, though construction hasn't officially started. Belcampo will be one of the few (if only) butchers to actually sell meat from its own farm in the Mt. Shasta area. At the moment, with only a blue tarpaulin covering the stall, an opening this year would seem unlikely, depending on the level of detail the company wants to put into the aesthetics. In general though, newer vendors at GCM have been pretty quick to open, usually within a few months after taking over. Earlier this week was news of Micah Wexler's deli concept, Wexler's Deli, slated to open February 2014.
