Despite a valiant effort to retain its longtime home at 8289 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood's Irv's Burgers shuttered yesterday after 63 years of business. Owners since 2000, The Hong family has launched an online campaign to help raise $55k to relocate the iconic burger stand, but thus far, with four days left, only $6,466 is in the bank.
Irv's was served an eviction notice over the summer, though was able to hang onto its turf until yesterday. Developers are moving in and, as some might recall, interior designer Thomas Schoos' is set to open a beach-themed cafe and shop onsite called Beach Nation. According to Schoos' website, he's also working on "an Alpine-themed restaurant called Ludwig that will open next year at the Original Farmer's Market/The Grove in L.A."
