Tom Bergins Tavern, the iconic Irish pub on Fairfax, has been purchased by a gentleman named Derek, a longtime regular who lives nearby the restaurant. The new ownership is bringing on T.K., one of the former owners of years past, as a consultant, and plans re-open for business by December 1. Together they will adjust the concept slightly to reflect the best aspects of both the original place, as well as its most recent iteration, which was the result of a nearly year-long restoration and remodel. After a menu remake by chef Brandon Boudet, regulars didn't seem to like the new vibe at the Fairfax institution, resulting in slow sales and a closure last July.
Warner Ebbink, the most recent owner, makes good on his word to sell to a buyer to that will retain as much of the original charm as possible. As such, new ownership doesn't plan to change much of the interior, though the food and drink might see some adjustment to the everyman version of the old Tom Bergins. Apparently a lot of offers were placed that eventually fell through, but the sale price (listed price was $3.9 Million) is uncertain.
