Welcome to Meanwhile, In SGV a regular feature in which TC, our fearless leader in all things San Gabriel Valley, brings word of restaurant openings, closings, and other unsung, curious neighborhood goings on.

1) Alhambra: Ohana Brewing Company's Andrew Luthi just signed a 870-square foot space off the busy Main Street in Downtown Alhambra. Ohana's opening date is at least 90 days away as permits are still pending. West SGV, with the additional of S. El Monte's Federal Brewing, and Ohana's new tasting room, is making a small splash in LA's crafty beer scene. Also, a fresh pint of local beer paired with a Chicago Italian beef and sausage sandwich will soon be a reality.

2) Alhambra: Rutsu 18 grand opened on November 4. Sarah Kim, once part of FOH team at Irori in Marina Del Rey, has concocted a Japanese-Korean, Cal-Asian menu meld after redesigning the old Tamaya Ramen space. Look for various donburis, the requisite tonkotsu ramen, izakaya-esque dishes such as grilled squid, grilled romaine, gyoza, and mini pork cutlets with Parmesan shiso. Rutsu is a loan word for "roots," which portrays the down-home feel of the cuisine. 645 E Main St

3) Temple City: URspace, a charming brunch and coffee restaurant, opened early in November. This Western-style space, complete with an enclosed outdoor patio, brings a refreshing Westside charm and a non-Asian menu to the middle of nowhere. The team, which also operates Tea Lane in Hacienda Heights, brought in chef Molly Yeh to oversee the menu. The coffee on offer is Sacramento's Temple Coffee. 9619 Las Tunas Dr.

4) Rosemead: Last week, Rose City Pizza became the first restaurant to tap Federal Brewing Company's keg since the brewery's grand opening. Expect more local collaborations between both parties in the near future. 3588 Rosemead Blvd.
