The defunct Kelly's of Naples will soft open as Chianina Steakhouse on December 15. The 80+ seat restaurant is by Michael's Restaurant Group, operators of Long Beach's Michael's on Naples and the Michael's Pizzeria chainlet, which serves a pretty decent pie. Last month chef David Coleman (Michael's on Naples) described the eatery as "a boutique steakhouse" named after Chianina, an ancient and prized breed of Italian cattle from which bistecca alla fiorentina is made. To start, the restaurant will plate a seasonal surf/turf menu, but management has purchased five Chianina cows that are being raised in Iowa, so in about a year patrons can expect Piedmontese beef, too.
