Thanks to a track of central conveyor belts that shuttle covered plates of pork gyoza, ceviche rolls, and seaweed salad, Blue C Sushi isn't LA's average sushi joint. Born in Seattle, the chainlet expands with its first LA location today at 11 a.m., right next to the recently open Roadside Eats at The Dome in Hollywood. Here one will find kaiten sushi or small Japanese plates of sushi and more designed by chef Jeffrey Lunak (former corporate chef for Iron Chef Morimoto), which travel around the narrow restaurant. Patrons simply pull what they want off the belt or also have the option to order a la carte sashimi, oysters, and cooked plates of salmon teriyaki and crispy calamari.
But the signature dish here is a Japanese-American mashup known as the Loaded Baked Potato: potato salad with bacon, cheddar, sour cream, caviar, chives, and bonito wrapped up in seaweed.
The restaurant itself is brightly lit and hyper modern, with booths hugging the central sushi station, plus a sake and beer bar off to a corner. Still to come, new locations in Newport Beach, San Francisco and Tarzana.
