1960s mod meets Parisian glamour tomorrow at Bo Nuage, a new Melrose patisserie specializing in nuage or cloud cakes. Flossing design choices fit for a high fashion boutique, the glossy 120-square foot shop (with 1,250 square-foot rear kitchen/office), designed by Jessica Marx of J. Marx Atelier, centers around a display case filled with colorful mini cakes emphasized against their simple geometric black and white setting.
Founders Pascal and Audrey Achcar hail from the same family behind Lette Macarons, and they're carrying on the French meringue tradition though in a different manner. Their cloud cakes, made in-house using organic ingredients, are built from two layers of meringue, filled with whipped cream, then covered in more whipped cream and topped with shaved chocolate. The shop is set up as more of a takeaway place, selling the $6 cakes in 15 flavors (patrons can also order 6-inch and 9-inch versions), alongside Stumptown coffee and tea drinks. This is definitely LA's first nuage cake shop, though another unrelated nuage cake confectionary is underway in Beverly Hills. Hours run daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
