REDONDO BEACH— Despite having soft opened just a week ago in Redondo Beach, Cork'er is already offering a dining deal: score $30 worth of food for just $20. Cork'er replaces Catalina Coffee Company within the Mysterious Galaxy bookstore and is an effort by Larry Killian, former operator of Killian's Irish Pub in Torrance. Think of Cork'er as a casual gastropubby place open from breakfast through dinner with craft beers on draft and a short wine list. [ELA]

VENICE— Plans for Abbot Kinney Hotel are back on the chopping block after neighborhood opposition thwarted an initial proposal, which involved a four-story, 92-room luxury hotel that would replace Joe's and Primitivo Wine Bistro. However, moving forward, the next proposed version is three stories and 85 rooms and won't knockout any preexisting businesses. [Curbed]
