Partners Ken Kaufman, Brian McKeaney and Dave Northrup of Culver City's City Tavern think that the shoppers of FIGat7th want a gastropub, and therefore they'll open their sophomore effort to mall-goers in January.
Similar to the Culver City aesthetic with brick and weathered wood, City Tavern Downtown is twice the size of the original, filled with communal tables, booths, a cocktail lounge, many beers on tap, and patio seatage. Culinary Director Jessica Christensen, also partly responsible for food at newbie Roadside Eats, has expanded her pubby menu with chilled dishes inclusive of Poke Style Albacore, House Smoked Salmon Belly and oysters, plus a Pastrami Burger and 18-ounce dry aged rib eye. Helping her out in the kitchen is new chef de cuisine Randy Montoya (Eva, Sadie). City Tavern will first open for dinner and happy hour, followed by lunch.
