After a moderately successful run inside the now defunct District BBQ in Arts District, shaved ice shop New York Snow is going brick-and-mortar in a few weeks on York Blvd in Highland Park. Founded by Carol Banh, the shavery boasts Taiwanese-style flavored ice sided with a variety of freshly cut fruit (much like Blockheads and Class 302), the dessert purveyor will sit just across the street from Scoops and the newish Donut Friend.

Does this impending opening make Highland Park the sweets center of the Eastside? Remember that Elsa's Bakery is right on this block, in addition to crepe specialist Chez Antoine pancaking down on Figueroa, as well as myriad other donut shops. Perhaps the new homeowners and Oxy students simply can't get enough sugar.
