After teasing fans for a few weeks, Derek Schreck, the new owner of Tom Bergin's Tavern on Fairfax, has announced that he plans to re-open the iconic Irish pub on January 4 with a small menu of bar snacks and the full bar program. Gone are the bottled beers and in comes a tap system of 14 beers, though much of the interior will remain the same. In addition, Schreck is upgrading an upstairs area called the Old Horse Shoe Lounge into a craft bar with a seasonal cocktail list.
Eventually, a slightly more ambitious, but still approachable full menu of pub fare should come online by the end of the month. Just last July came the sad news of Tom Bergins' closure after a retooling of the menu and drink program by Warner Ebbink and Brandon Boudet (Dominick's). And so, surely a joyful start to the new year for fans of the classic shamrock ceiling and old-timey vibe.
