How cute is the new HomeState? A spunky breakfast and lunch cafe open at 8 a.m. this morning, inspired by the cuisine of Central Texas. This is a place for homesick Texans by a homesick Texan, proprietor Briana Valdez moved from Austin to Los Angeles in 2000 and, years later, wanting to launch her own restaurant, worked at Bouchon in Beverly Hills to learn the industry. What was once the short-lived Storefront now boasts blue wallpaper, picnic benches, and Texas tchotchkes, designed by Jacquelyn Langberg. Consulting chef Alex Ageneau (The Royce) is behind Tex-Mex eats which definitely involve Frito pie in a bag.
Right now there's no booze, but Valdez plans to apply for a license once she launches dinner service. Hours of operation run daily from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Breakfast is served all day and lunch begins at 11 a.m.
