Matthew Kang is the Lead Editor of Eater LA. He has covered dining, restaurants, food culture, and nightlife in Los Angeles since 2008. He's the host of K-Town, a YouTube series covering Korean food in America, and has been featured in Netflix's Street Food show.

Despite a pack of legal issues plaguing the luxe-Chinese restaurant empire of Philippe Chow, the new Beverly Hills location was looking ready to swing its doors open several months ago. However, a quick peek at the restaurant shows nearly zero activity in the last five months. A sad sign for the celeb haven that relocated from Melrose to a space on Wilshire just a stone's throw from La Cienega's Restaurant Row.

The windows are still papered up and the furniture looks unused. The counters are dusty and there are a few broken wine glasses left shattered on the ground. The former Maison Maurice was looking at a glitzy new life, but perhaps the tremendous legal fees and lawsuits were overwhelming.

No word from the restaurant regarding the future of Philippe, but this one looks shuttered before it even opened. Additional tips welcome in the comments.
