Bludso's Bar & Que, Carmela Ice Cream, and Michael's Pizzeria Commence Service

1) Mid-City: It's time to get your fingers dirty at Bludso's Bar & Que, that new bar and barbecue joint launched yesterday by star smoker Kevin Bludso (Bludso's BBQ) and Jason Bernstein/James Starr (The Golden State). A cleaned up and more convenient version of Bludso's in Compton, here on La Brea the slate gray restaurant is serving this menu (which JUST went live), in addition to mint juleps on tap nightly until midnight. Interestingly, former food writer Noah Galuten is manning the eatery's prized Ole Hickory smoker, and his mother, Nancy Lyons, is contributing desserts like apple pie and red velvet cake. Ice cream from Scoops, too. [LAW]

2) Mid-City: Pasadena-based, farmers market regular Carmela Ice Cream opened its second scoopery yesterday at 7920 West Third. The exterior of the new Mid-City store looks almost identical to the original, with a bright rectangular sign that's hard to miss. Inside Carmela's new shop, which used to be a clothing boutique, white walls and a country-style counter greet guests. There's also a chalkboard menu, a freezer full of pints to take home and a daily array of flavors ready for scooping. Now open daily at 11 a.m. [EaterWire] — DG

3) Long Beach: Today brings the official debut and ribbon cutting of a third location for Michael's Pizzeria, a Neapolitan-style joint with two pizza ovens now firing next door to Beachwood BBQ at Long Beach's Promenade. Check out Facebook for some shots of the mod indoor/outdoor space. [OCW]
