Rita Iskenderian and family, best known for the garlic sauce and rotisserie chicken that they sell at Zankou Chicken locations across Los Angeles, are embarking upon a new restaurant concept. Long-time employees of Zankou locations in the San Fernando Valley are helping the Iskenderians open a Mexican grill, Ara's Tacos, in Glendale.
Neighbors have noted that the location on Glenoaks near Highland has been under construction for months, but appears to be nearing completion. Zankou Chicken employees and a contractor on site confirm that Ara's Tacos will open later this week. The Mexican menu features tacos most prominently, but also offers larger plates and standards like chips and salsa. Set to serve from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily, the Iskenderian family hopes to expand the Ara's Tacos concept across LA. [EaterWire]
