Bludso's Bar & Que, the collaborative effort between The Golden State guys and Kevin Bludso of the lauded Bludso's BBQ in Compton, has fully replaced Mark Peel's The Tar Pit on La Brea. Last night the barbecue joint ran its first evening of friends and family, and right now the plan is to most likely debut to the public during the week of February 11. But, the exact date is still up in the air. A nearby resident notes, "there was a very strong unmistakeable smoky BBQ smell in the air all around the neighborhood......(we live about 500ft away)....if I was a betting man I'd put $100 on the fact that the smoker is now up and running and chefs were being trained."
Take a look inside and one will note a minimalist, gun-metal color aesthetic (sort of like ink.) with industrial stools and wooden tables. There are four-tops, booths, and family-style dining plus flat screen tvs throughout. Somehow the space does feel smaller than its incarnation as The Tar Pit, but perhaps there's a bigger kitchen now than before. Anyway, barbecue, cocktails, and beer en route.
