B1 Breadshop on Abbot Kinney near Washington was supposed to changeover into a "European" restaurant called Pichet. But, over the last few months, on and off, chef Benadicto Gell has staged nights of his Mangu pop-up concept, and last night the chef reached a deal with owners to make Mangu a permanent fixture in the B1 space. Renovations will begin next month. In the meantime, the chef will continue to prepare his Dominican-California fusion plates in pop-up fashion (check his dates here) like Rockfish cooked in a banana leaf; fried green plantains; and breakfast radish with grapefruit yogurt and mint.
