In what was an unlucky locale for the last few businesses, restaurateur Jesse Gomez is importing his successful Westside Mexican concept, Mercado, to 7910 W. 3rd Street. Faux Pas, a French eatery, lasted eight months, Thai restaurant Rama lasted a matter of months as well, and before that there was Celadon.
But come August/September of this year, Gomez will overhaul the 200-seat space yet again with the help of lauded designer Ana Henton of MASS Architecture (Lukshon, Take A Bao) into Mercado, and Mercado Santa Monica chef Jose Acevedo will devise the menu. Likely similar to this. Drinks by mixologist Gilbert Marquez.
Although there will not be outdoor seating here, large windows that open out toward W. Third Street will provide an indoor/outdoor feel. Like the Santa Monica location, expect regular tables and communal dining.
·Mercado, Warm and Rustic, Opens May 1 in Santa Monica [~ELA~]
