For months, if not years, rumors have swirled around the neighboring, now fully built restaurant in Malibu right next door to new addition Nobu on the PCH. Wolfgang Puck was/is reputedly attached, and not too long ago an Eater reader sent over a tip claiming that Wolfie had personally told him that he was going to install another branch of CUT in this space. But, Puck's reps shot the rumor down fair and square. However, it's interesting to read an interview with Haute Living (issue hits stands March 25) in which Puck states he's in the early planning stages for a new seafood-centric restaurant in Malibu. Says Puck:

I'm actually planning one right now. I'm talking to Larry Ellison about opening a restaurant on the beach in Malibu. We would serve great seafood simply prepared, really simple, but of high quality. We just started to talk about it. I was supposed to do the restaurant a year ago and then I backed out, but we're talking again. We're in the early stages.

It must be the above pictured space, no doubt. Though LA has experienced a recent seafood boom (Son of a Gun, littlefork, Connie & Ted's, Fishing with Dynamite, Water Grill SM), it's still surprising that there aren't more high quality seafood places on the westside. Especially along the beach. But now, Puck to save the day.
