Evan Funke's Bucato, which took over the defunct Beacon space in the Helms Bakery complex in Culver City, is gearing up for a major remodel after initial permits were granted. Though Funke has been roaming the city serving some excellent porchetta sandwiches and then burgers from a truck to promote the modern Italian restaurant, the brick and mortar has chugged along at a pretty slow pace. Recently, Eater spotted construction crews putting together what looked like a mezzanine level, as well as various interior bits that were strewn across the front and rear of the restaurant, though it's unclear which side will be the entrance.
Chances are the doors opening up to Lukshon and La Dijonaise will be the front entrance and patio area while the back will be another outdoor dining area. With the original opening date of mid-December long past, it looks like a debut some time in the summer or even early fall is more likely. [Eaterwire]
