Well, there are indeed some updates on the Wolfgang Puck in Malibu front, although it's still unclear what, exactly, is going on across the Nobu Malibu parking lot. For years restaurant folk have rumored that Puck was in talks to claim the now fully built restaurant at 22718 Pacific Coast Highway. Then, last month, Haute Living scored an interview with the chef (interview published March 25) where he flat out stated that he's planning a Malibu beach seafood restaurant with Oracle CEO Larry Ellison. The chef admitted to "backing out" a while back, but said that the project was back "in the early stages."
But Today The Malibu Times follows up with a piece in which the building's architect claims that no such Puck deal is in place and that "ownership is expecting to open some type of Mediterranean themed restaurant in June or July." Meanwhile, reps for Puck refuse to comment either way. So, what the deal here? Additional intel welcome in the comments.
