SANTA MONICA—It's unclear what, exactly, this means at the moment, but word on the street is that Jeff Weinstein (The Counter, Freddy Smalls) is purchasing The Shack, a divey Burger/American place on Wilshire and 26th. Perhaps this could be to open a BUILT burger place, or to house a new concept altogether. [EaterWire]
BEVERLY HILLS— Sushi Nozawa fans wondering about the progress over at sugarFISH on Canon, take note. According to workers on site, the resonably priced, high quality sushi bar should open "within a couple weeks." Right now the space is still being built out (see above). [EaterWire]
RANCHO CUCAMONGA— The owner of a Chick-fil-A franchise in Rancho Cucamonga stunned folks gathered at a marriage equality rally on Monday when he addressed the crowd and gave away coupons for free food. Franchise owner Corey Braun told a local paper that he "wanted to show that Chick-fil-A doesn't discriminate against anybody. We serve everyone. We're happy to serve the community and this was an opportunity to have this group come in and show them our hospitality regardless of their beliefs, sexual orientation, or whatever. Chick-fil-A has never been about hate." [-EN-]
