Chef John Sedlar and Bill Chait's two-year-old Playa restaurant, which took over for Grace on Beverly Boulevard, is calling it quits. Reps for the 2.5 star restaurant just blasted out the following note:
Dear Friends, It is with bittersweet sentiment that Playa will host its last service this Wednesday, March 6th. While the restaurant has been critically successful and John has tremendously enjoyed the creative process of introducing Baja and Mexi-China inspired menus to Angelenos, the concept has not met the high expectations John and Bill set for it when opening two years ago. With that in mind, they'll be taking a few weeks to close and retool before reopening with something entirely new and very exciting in the space. We'd like to extend our gratitude to each and every one of our friends, colleagues and loyal diners for their endless support these past two years. On that note, Playa will host a farewell dinner this coming Wednesday from 6 to 10 p.m. with drink specials and a gratis toast to the restaurant's chef de cuisine, Kevin Kuzande, who was recently recognized by Zagat for '30 Under 30.'
