Today chef Windy 'Makani' Gerardi of Ultimate Burger in Kona, Hawaii debuts Pono Burger, the Santa Monica burger concept that touts product sourced from local farmers plus organic, non-GMO fries and such. Aesthetically, the DEX Studio (sugarFISH) space has come together as those renderings indicated, with a clean, bright look and eating spaces divided between the Quonset Hut, some outdoor patio tables, and a few seats inside the commissary's main hub.
Pono Burger's signature dish is a third pound beef patty grilled over hickory wood and topped with organic lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and a house-made secret sauce atop a brioche bun for $7. Addition toppings like avocado, grilled mushrooms, or cheese from nearby Andrew's Cheese Shop cost extra. In addition to a couple other burgers, one can also order fries, milkshakes (made with Straus Family Creamery ice cream), lemonade and local craft beer and wine. Hours of operation run Sunday to Wednesday 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Thursday to Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Free underground parking is offered.
