For over a year now prolific restaurateur Michael Cardenas (Lazy Ox, Toranoko) has been chipping away at the former Tudor House in Santa Monica, making room for his Spanish tapas place Taberna Arroz y Vi, an eatery to which chef Perfecto Rocher was originally attached. But, Rocher and Cardenas had a falling out last year and word in that chef Verite Mazzola — who has spent time as executive chef at Palomino in Westwood and also bounced around Culver City from Ford's Filling Station to Akasha to Rush Street — will run Taberna's kitchen. Apparently, she's famous for her pudding. Anyway. Taberna is staffing up, but before the restaurant goes whole hog, Mazzola will prepare an early bird taste of Taberna tomorrow night at The Ox.
