Pie Society, OC's New Dark Den of Drinking and Eating

New, 3 comments

Orange County doesn't have the highest concentration of cocktail bars, but there are some luminaries like 320 Main in Seal Beach. Now, thanks to Pie Society, the south coast has somewhere to congregate for classics like Hemingway daiquiris, mai tais, and true whiskey sours. The small, dark, wood-paneled room is reminiscent of a speakeasy, with playful and beachy accents. Patrons enter though an unmarked door at the back of Pitfire Pizza. A massive photo of Muhammad Ali's knockout over Sonny Liston looms above a far wall within.

Pie Society's bar is headed by Steve Garcia (Mesa, Broadway), whose menu leans toward new takes on timeless drinks. For example, Old Man by the Sea puts a rum and lime spin on the Old Fashioned. There's also a bartender's choice and "book on the wall," which allows imbibers to pick a recipe from the numerous books stacked on the case behind the bar. Finally, Jason Neroni's bar menu includes bites like the Deli Pizza, made with meatballs and Gouda. Hours for Pie Society are now Tuesday to Sunday, 5 p.m. to late.
