Back in the day, 3121 W. Olive Ave. in Burbank, presently occupied by Peruvian restaurant Choza Mama, served as one of the original Orange Julius shacks. Do take a gander at the first photo above from 1984. Despite Los Angeles' recent Peruvian food influx, Choza Mama is on its way out and will be replaced by high-end neighborhood coffee hang, Coffee Commissary. Which has its flagship at 801 N. Fairfax and a newer cafe at Siren Studios in Hollywood. Co-owner Tyler King says his goal is to "bring back the original OJ shack look with a few odes to the orange cream drink." Sounds kind of fun. He's going to restore the building's original zig-zag chevron-style roofline, among other aesthetics. More to come.
