Ah, well. The verdict is in. Irv's Burgers — the 63-year-old burger stand and cultural landmark on Santa Monica Boulevard at Sweetzer — was served an eviction notice and is expected to vacate its longstanding home on June 29. For months now Irv's owner Sonia Hong has been threatened by her landlord with rent increases in effort to oust the business and potentially make room for interior designer Thomas Schoos' beach-themed cafe. However, Route 66 News reports that property owners might also attempt to illegally demolish Irv's once Hong moves out. It's unclear whether Irv's will reopen elsewhere in Los Angeles.
