General Lee's to Chinatown; Bigmista's Barbecue to Dtown

DOWNTOWN— A new bar is slated to open in Chinatown under the name General Lee's, designed by Alexis Readinger of Preen (Taberna Arros y Vi). It replaces the shuttered Mountain Bar and its aesthetic is described as "Edgy, intimate, Hong Kong post punk couture meets Agent Provocateur." Curious. [EaterWire]

DOWNTOWN— Bigmista's Barbecue isn't headed to Long Beach, rather the celebrated barbecue operation lands in the Medallion Apartments at 4th and Main, joining Simply Salad, and the forthcoming Sushi Zo and Dr. J's Vibrant Cafe. Creators Neil and Phyllis Strawder plan to open by the first of next year and will initially just serve breakfast and lunch. Get excited for pig candy pancakes, barbecue eggs Benedict and brisket chili fries. [LAT]

MID-CITY— Old school new school dessertery Cake Monkey is popping up at Graffiti coffee bar on La Brea this coming Friday until Sunday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Swing by for cakes, pies, cakewiches, inside out s'mores, chocolate caramel cake pudding, cakewiches, monkey bread, pop pies and more. SANTA MONICA— Platine Bakery has been off the map for a minute, but news in that the bakeshop is shacking up at Fred Segal from June 27 to July 7. Meanwhile, its Culver City storefront on W Washington Boulevard will shutter during the pop-up. [EaterWire]
