With Starbucks just a block away and Caffe Luxxe and Primo Passo slightly down west, stalwart LA coffee roaster Groundwork — which first shacked up on Rose in 1991, years before the current artisan coffee boom — is looking to stake its Montana turf, too. Taking over a 1,100 square foot corner space at 16th Street which was originally to become Fenjune tea house, Groundwork is looking to spread the coffee love around August 27. Co-owner Eddy Cola says that the Montana cafe will aesthetically reflect the neighborhood, with a mix of found and custom furniture and cutting edge coffee brewing equipment inclusive of a La Marzocco espresso machine. Both indoor and outdoor cafe seating to come.
