Gary Arabia's GC Marketplace to Hollywood Next June

New, 4 comments

Gary Arabia, the chef behind Global Cuisine catering and Global Cuisine the restaurant at The Lot Studios, is launching GC Marketplace, the remake of Oakcrest Market on Cahuenga in Hollywood. GC Marketplace is exactly as its name suggests. A hybrid cafe and retail shop with a coffee bar, wine bar, boulangerie, and cheese/charcuterie area, offering an "eclectic mix of flavors, textures, and spices from around the world," says Arabia. That's where the "Global" comes into play. It's a project he's wanted to open for years and the plan is to run with additional units in the future.

Arabia describes GC Marketplace as an upscale gourmet market or "culinary boutique," with all foodstuffs made in-house. Expect counter service and breakfast, lunch, and dinner on weekends, and probably lunch and dinner during the week, maybe breakfast too, but that's still up in the air. Arabia will also offer pre-made food to go.

Jennifer Charleston is spearheading the design here, and Arabia is especially excited about restoring the building's 22-foot tall vaulted lamella ceiling. Did you know the space dates back to the 1930s? It does. Right now GC Marketplace is totally gutted, look for an opening in June 2014.
