The Market Place Grill Cafe in LB; Firestone Walker to LA

LONG BEACH—When Frisco's roller skating waitresses hung up their skates back in April after a seven year run, it was unclear what would come of the Long Beach location. This past weekend Downey's The Market Place Grill Cafe moved in with an expansive menu of American and Mediterranean inspired dishes. VENICE/MDR— Firestone Walker Brewing Co. has purchased a building at W. Washington and Lincoln (previously medical offices and a restaurant) to open a brewery and taproom. Details are still being finalized but westsiders can expect both food and Firestone beers on tap to come. [LAW]

WEST LA— Instead of drinks paired to food, Steingarten LA is pairing food to drinks. On August 29 at 7 p.m., cocktail chef Matthew Biancaniello will craft five beer-focused cocktails at the W. Pico Boulevard brew house in collaboration with the venue's bar manager Eric Wolff. Steingarten chef Ricardo Morales has drafted up a food menu to complement the booze. Course Two: Halibut Cheeks, Snow Peas, Cantaloupe, w/ a Red Miso Vinaigrette.

Course Three: Duck Funnel Cake, White Chocolate, w/ Strawberry & Habanero.
Cocktail Pairing: Mezcal, Reposado, Melon, Roasted Red Pepper, Cilantro, Ginger.

Course Four: Huevos Rancheros, Rabbit Chorizo, Black Beans.
Cocktail Pairing: Rhubarb Liqueur, Avocado, Tarragon, Berliner Shrub, Yeti Foam.

Course Five: Potato Nest, Duck Confit, Blackberry, Quail Eggs.
