BURBANK—With regard to the soft open Coffee Commissary on W. Olive, co-owner Tyler King says that he will continue to roll out comp pastries this weekend, from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Right now he's only charging for coffee. Signage and art will be installed next week with an official launch set for September 19. Regular hours of operation to run 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. King adds, "We have a bakery onsite, our own parking lot, and our own pay phone in case people are afraid of the NSA." [EaterWire]

DOWNTOWN— Looking to snag a piece of restaurant real estate in the super hot district of arts? Here's a list of some warehouse-type spots that are up for grabs. [AD Properties]

DOWNTOWN— "The Next Food Frontier" is helmed by Alma chef Ari Taymor (also the recent recipient of Bon Appetit's best new restaurant in the country title), according to The Daily Beast. In a space described as "a temporary catering operation or improvised wine bar" Taymor is turning out "some of the most fascinating and forward-thinking food of 2013." But the piece questions, "Will Taymor's brand of gentle, introspective, avant-garde cooking supplant the trendy, testosterone-rich comfort food of the past several years?" [The Daily Beast]

VENICE— Joe's on Abbot Kinney is turning a whopping 22 years old on September 17 and management will pour gratis glasses of sparkling wine for guests during lunch and dinner. Also expect a few special dishes from the past. [EaterWire]
