Red O Bringing Modern Mexican to OC in a Big Way

New, 21 comments

While Red O has mostly fallen off Angelenos' dining radar since its splashy launch back in May 2010, management and consulting chef Rick Bayless are expanding the modern Mexican brand to Fashion Island mall in Newport Beach this December. Above, the 8,500-square-foot restaurant's floor plan, which will also involve a 1,100-square-foot heated outdoor pavilion and a living tree in the middle of the dining room.

Although Dodd Mitchell was responsible for the Melrose aesthetic, LA-based interior designer Martyn Lawrence Bullard (Colony Palms Hotel Group) is behind the OC eatery's look, which is inspired by historic villas from San Miguel de Allende in Mexico. Think European mosaic tile work, leather embellishments and aged walls.
