Another Kind of Sunrise, a Courtyard Café in Venice

Right by The Tasting Kitchen on Abbot Kinney is a skinny little alley, bright and sunny, with a paper sign taped to bare brick announcing Another Kind of Sunrise, a healthy new cereal kiosk that soft opened on Tuesday. You know that wolf-cheetah painted on the side of Gjelina? That's by Mexican actress Diana Garcia, and she's behind this joint with fiancée/musician Greg Rogove. The colorful expanse was designed by Greg's brother Jordan who heads up the NY-based firm, DXA Studio. Los Angeles artist Matthew Morgan and landscape designer Patrick Cullina helped punch up the space with color and foliage, and those creeping vines along the brick wall hold kiwi, passion fruit and dragon fruit plants.

The menu is fairly simple. There's Handsome coffee, herbal teas by Distira Tisanes, and bowls of organic cereal devoid of refined sugar. The customer selects a type of milk (or yogurt), be it from a cow or from an almond (by Mylkman). Then come toppings like flax, fresh fruit, and shredded coconut. The other three bowl options are a chia porridge, a paleo granola bowl with yogurt, or an acai bowl. Hours are still sketchy at the moment but will likely run around 7 or 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. pending neighborhood reception.
