Multi-layered pork cutlet is now available to Culver City denizens with the opening of Kimukatsu, a tonkatsu chain that's also opening soon on Sawtelle. Starting at $15, these crispy katsu-creations tout 25 layers of pork and come stuffed with cheese, black pepper, and garlic for a nice variety. Some off-the-wall variants include demi-glace cheese, okonomiyaki, and ume-shiso. The menu also boasts sides like agedashi tofu and desserts like Shingen ice (ice cream with soy bean powder and syrup) and black sesame pudding.
The interior seems spartan but functional, with colorful chairs providing the only real contrast, along with wood accents. Early Yelp reports sound promising, with some complaints about the pricing. Sage and Blaze Pizza have some company now at the now fully leased up Culver Crossroads. Open daily from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m for lunch and 5-11 p.m. for dinner.
